King Clancy

In popular culture he is referred to in the TV series How I Met Your Mother in the episode of Old King Clancy.

He died November 10, 1986, at age 83 and is buried in Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario.

Old King Clancy

She met "The Frozen Snowshoe" (a famous Canadian wrestler), who showed her his collection of Harvey's Trays (simple orange plastic trays from a fast-food chain), and offered her an "Old King Clancy" (a "Sacramento Turtleneck" with maple syrup).

King Clancy was the nickname given to Francis Clancy who played in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1921 to 1937.


1933–34 NHL season

On December 12, 1933, near the end of the second period of a game between the Leafs and the Boston Bruins in the Boston Garden, Bailey was tripped from behind by Bruins defenceman Eddie Shore, in retaliation for a check that Toronto defenceman King Clancy had delivered to Shore.

Charlie Conacher

In return for Black Hawk Johnny Gottselig, whom Smythe coveted, Chicago asked for Conacher and star defenceman King Clancy for compensation, to which Smythe reportedly cabled that Santa Claus lived at the North Pole, not in Maple Leaf Gardens.
