He was a member of the Bulgarian National Team in Water Polo (youth team), and was trained by Ivan Popov, one of the best coaches in water polo in Bulgaria.

In 2003 Tenekedjiev was a visiting scientist in the Mathematical Modeling Group of the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen in Ispra.

Some of his best friends are his highschool buddies, among which is Krasimir Kolev, nowadays an M.D. and prominent researcher in the field of biochemistry.
