He studied at St. Andrew's School and Williams College, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society.

Varnedoe was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia and attended Savannah Country Day School.


Gordon Saussy

His grandson, Kirk Varnedoe, played rugby for 14 years and later became the Director of Painting and Sculpting at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
