2 unusual facts about Kočani


Kočani

The founders of the Slavic education, brothers Kiril and Metodij (Cyril and Methodius), stayed in the valley from the year 845 to 855 and in the Bregalnica area (Morodvis) started to preach Christianity in Slavic language.

Monastery complexes in the nearby villages Morodvis and Panteley are world famous both for their architecture and unique frescoes.


Dolno Gradište

The excavations in 2004 were the first exploring activities with a purpose to prevent the site from the construction of the local road which connects Kočani to the village Jastrebnik.

Serbs in the Republic of Macedonia

According to Serbian authors, after the Treaty of San Stefano, the populations of the counties of Kumanovo, Skopje, Kriva Palanka, Kratovo, Kyustendil, Kočani, Strumica, Probištip, Veles, Debar, Kičevo and Prilep sent deputations and appeals to Prince Milan of Serbia, imploring him to not abandon Macedonia to the Bulgarians and to assign the region to Serbia.

Štip – Kočani dialect

This dialect is spoken in the central eastern part of Macedonia, respectively in Štip, Probištip, Kočani, Vinica, Radoviš and in the in surrounding areas.

Todor Aleksandrov

In 1898, he finished the Bulgarian Pedagogical School in Skopje and became a Bulgarian teacher consecutively in the towns of Kocani, Kratovo, the village of Vinica, and Štip.
