Apart from the rectorate and university campus in Bornova, there are vocational training schools in Tire, Bergama, Bayındır and Ödemiş, Atatürk Cultural Center in Konak, applied educational centers in Urla, Menemen, Mordoğan, Çiğli and Özdere, and an observatory in Kurudağ.
Buses serve all seven main city districts (Konak, Bornova, Balçova, Karşıyaka, Buca, Çiğli, Gaziemir) and 13 of the 18 district heads outside the city (Menemen, Aliağa, Foça, Narlıdere, Güzelbahçe, Seferihisar, Urla, Çeşme, Karaburun, Menderes, Torbalı, Selçuk, Kemalpaşa).
It is one of the metropolitan districts of Greater İzmir and is situated to the south of central İzmir (Konak) on the road to İzmir.

The village is situated about 20 km northeast of the provincial capital Hakkâri of Hakkâri Province, in the southeastern corner of Turkey, near the borders of Iran and Iraq.
