On 29 March 2006, Nawalowalo expressed interest in contesting the Kadavu Fijian Communal Constituency for the ruling Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua Party (SDL), but ended up withdrawing in favour of the incumbent, Konisi Yabaki.
Among other allegations, Navakasuasua has implicated Cabinet Minister Konisi Yabaki in the coup plot, allegations angrily denied by Yabaki.
He had previously sought to win the seat at the 1999 election, for the Fijian Association Party (FAP), but was defeated by Konisi Yabaki of the Fijian Political Party (SVT).
