In 1946, the following year of the Allies victory over Japan in World War II and restoration of Taiwan to the Republic of China, the school was renamed the Taiwan Provincial Taipei Cheng Kung High School in memory of the national hero, Koxinga (Cheng Cheng-kung) for his resistance to foreign invaders.
The threat of Chinese invasion forced the Spanish to withdraw their forces to Manila, leaving some troops in Jolo and by Lake Lanao to engage the Moro in protracted conflict, while Zamboanga was immediately evacuated upon Koxinga's threats.
In 1663, the Spanish garrison in Ternate were forced to pull out to defend Manila against an impending invasion by the Chinese pirate Koxinga (sacrificing the Moluccas to the Dutch in doing so).
Koxinga, Prince of Yanping, a military leader at the end of the Chinese Ming Dynasty

Zheng Chenggong (鄭成功) (1624–1662), son of Zheng Zhilong (a Han Chinese) and Tagawa Matsu (Japanese), was a prominent leader of a military movement that opposed the Qing Dynasty from the 1640s to the 1660s.
A pro-Ming Dynasty state, it was founded by Koxinga (also known as Zheng Chenggong) (鄭成功) after the Ming government in China was replaced by the Manchu-ruled Qing Dynasty.
In this shrine, there is also a sculpture of young Koxinga and his mother.
