2005 - Nominated for a New York Innovative Theater Award for Ellen Stewart's play Perseus at La MaMa, E.T.C., Honoree for Outstanding Choreography/Movement, along with Renaurd Gee, Maureen Fleming, Juliana Lau, Frederico Restrepo and Chris Wild.
Among them, the Kosovo Ballet worked with American experimental theater La Mama to perform the musical "Diana".
Their collaborations with La MaMa theater in New York in late 1990s led to their embrace of traditional music and shamanic roots too, and eventually to formation of the group Namgar that represents Buryat traditional music at world music festivals since 2001.
By covering theatrical companies like the Negro Ensemble Company, Café La Mama and the New Federal Theater, she provided them with visibility and support they would not have had otherwise.
Kurtti also drew a spot-on caricature of Sam Shepard for the 1984 La Mama presentation of Shepard Sets, a series of three short plays: Suicide in B Flat, Angel City and Black Bog Beast.
His work has been produced and presented by numerous venues including La Mama, the Kitchen, Dance Theater Workshop, the Walker Arts Center, On the Boards, Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Wexner Center, Kampnagel Theater, Prater Theater, National Theatre of Mexico, Mickery Theater, Theater am Turm, Granada Festival, Eurokaz Zagreb, Bogota International Festival, Vienna Festival,Kyoto Performing Arts Center and Spoleto USA.
Kęstutis Nakas is an American playwright, author, performer, director, and teacher whose work has been presented at the New York Shakespeare Festival, Yale Repertory Theatre, La Mama, Dixon Place, P.S. 122, St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery, 8 BC, The Kitchen, Highways, and numerous other national venues.
Sam also appeared in a number of highly popular stage productions including: The Death of Peter Pan, Quintessence and Shipwreck!, all directed by Robert Chuter and produced at La Mama Theatre.
These pieces were performed at La MaMa in New York, in major theatres in Kiev, Kharkiv and Lviv and at international theatre festivals, as well as in village cultural centers.
