3 unusual facts about Lagunas de Ruidera


El Ballestero

The town is on the Ruta de Don Quijote and nearby tourist attractions include Libisosa (the remains of a Roman Town near Lezuza), Alcaraz which is a medieval town, Las Lagunas de Ruidera and the Sierra de Alcaraz (where eagles, vultures, great bustards, wild boar and lynxes live).

In the waters of the lakes there are also endemic Iberian fishes like the Rutilus lemmingii, Luciobarbus guiraonis, Iberian Barbel, Luciobarbus microcephalus, Squalius pyrenaicus, as well as introduced species, like the Common carp, Northern pike, Largemouth bass and Gambusia holbrooki.

The Lagunas de Ruidera are a group of small lakes in the Campo de Montiel, between Albacete Province, and Ciudad Real Province, Spain.


Guijoso

It is very close to the Lagunas de Ruidera, an area of wetlands and natural reserve, and is the source of the river Pinilla.
