He attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School and was a member of the school cricket team, he was well known for his hostile yet accurate bowling style.
In 1235, the 19th year of the Reign of Henry III, (House of Plantagenet), the Lancaster Royal Grammar School was established.

Born at Great Heywood, Staffordshire, Queally attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School, where he was part of the swimming squad in the mid-1980s, later representing Lancaster and British Universities in water polo while a student at Lancaster University, where he earned a BSc in Biological Science.
It also hosts Lancashire County Cricket district junior matches and is used as an outground for Lancaster Royal Grammar School, the University of Lancaster and the University of Cumbria.
