Vaux's Law (as labelled by Avery & Idsardi 2001, Iverson & Salmons 2003), which he first formulated in a 1998 article in Linguistic Inquiry, states that laryngeally unspecified—i.e. voiceless--fricatives become GW/sg in systems contrasting fricatives without reference to GW/sg; thus they are to be aspirated or, more technically, to be pronounced with a spread glottis.

After that they cooperated to show the laryngeal gestures in the various effects e.g. distortion, growl, grunt, creaks and creaking, rattle, Scream, vocal breaks, etc.
In October 2011 McQueen was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx and started treatment at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, near his home in North Yorkshire.
It may also be acquired, seen in glassblowers due to continual forced expiration producing increased pressures in the larynx which leads to dilatation of the laryngeal ventricle (sinus of Morgagni).
