Franco-Flemish Renaissance master Orlande de Lassus composed The Tears of Saint Peter (1593–1594), dedicated to Pope Clement VIII: it was the final work of Lassus and considered, by some, the absolute summit of the 16th-century Italian madrigal.
Already she had been moved from sources as varied as Musorgsky in Boris Godunov, Lassus, and Delibes in the “Bell Song” from Lakmé, but also Debussy in Pelléas et Mélisande has suggested a prosody that reframes the pulse, whereby she alters the tempo of the beat places notes in unsuspected groupings within the beat, creating her characteristic wave rhythm.
In many serious church musicians, there was a deep-seated desire to revive Chant as well as the Renaissance polyphony of Palestrina, Lassus, Victoria, Anerio, et al., and to rid Masses of the more entertaining, operatic style of music.
Cyrus Lassus was born March 1, 1982 in Arrecife, Spain and made his acting debut in 2006 in the film Wild Seven, starring Robert Loggia, Richard Roundtree and Robert Forrester.
She is a member of Paul Hillier's Theatre of Voices, with whom she sings ancient and baroque works of composers such as Abelard, Lassus, Tallis, and Schütz as well as contemporary creations such as by Cage, Stockhausen, and Pärt.
Some of the composers who set Infelix ego to music include Adrian Willaert (he was the first to set it directly); Cipriano de Rore; Nicola Vicentino; Simon Joly; Orlande de Lassus, working in Munich; Lassus's student Jacob Reiner; and in England, William Byrd.

It has been set to music by a number of composers, especially during the Renaissance, including Dufay, Josquin, Willaert, Palestrina, John Dunstaple, Lassus, Victoria, and Byrd.
