He was witness of the entrance to Ragusa of the envoy of Napoleon, general Lauriston, in 1806, of the formal restoration of the old Republic from English part in 1813, of the occupation Austrian in 1814.
The original and second (but not present) buildings of George Watson's College were also in Lauriston.
