The line's remaining connection with the Midland Main Line is Knighton South Junction, which faces southwards, away from Leicester railway station.

There is a half-hourly service to London St. Pancras and hourly services to either Nottingham via Leicester or to Corby, both operated by Meridian trains.
Leicester London Road, mentioned above, is now the only train station in the city centre, after the closure of Leicester Belgrave Road and Leicester Central in the 1960s.
Oakham railway station is positioned approximately halfway between Peterborough railway station and Leicester railway station, at both of which passengers can board a train to London - either from Leicester to London St Pancras or from Peterborough to London King's Cross.
