After passing the Philippine Foreign Service Officer (FSO) Examination, she held various high positions such as: she was appointed Ambassador to Australia from 1981 to 1986; Secretary-General of the World Conference on the UN Decade of Women in Nairobi, Kenya in 1985.

Late in life, he appeared in several films, including Saeed Mirza's Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984), Tamas (1986), Kumar Shahani's Kasba (1991), Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Buddha (1993) and Aparna Sen's Mr. and Mrs. Iyer (2002).
A graduate of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he founded the Philippine Institute of Development Studies (PIDS), currently an attached agency to NEDA, and contested in the 1999 selection of the University of the Philippines president together with prominent figures such as former senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani and sociologist Ledivina V. Cariño but ultimately lost to political scientist Francisco Nemenzo, Jr.
Khem Shahani is best known for his discovery of the DDS-1 strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus in 1959, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
In 1996, Oversoul 7 formed with singer Geri Soriano-Lightwood, Ramin Sakurai, bassist Kiran Shahani, and guitarist Rick Torres, and released "Nothing Like Tomorrow" and "What's the Deal" on two compilations on the Moonshine Music dance label.
