Her father Joe was a member of the Kilkenny team that won the Liam McCarthy Cup in 1969.

Clare captain Anthony Daly received the Liam McCarthy Cup from GAA President Jack Boothman in the Hogan Stand and gave a famous speech saying "'There's been a missing person in Clare for 81 long years. Well today that person has been found alive and that person's name is Liam McCarthy".
Two weeks previously at the Hurling Final the Liam McCarthy Cup was awarded to Kilkenny on a podium in the centre of the pitch whilst Cliff Richard's "Congratulations" was played over the public address system.
