The placename features in the title of a bestselling book by Douglas Adams and John Lloyd, The Meaning of Liff.
The second annual LIFF was initially planned for 5–7 July 2013, but was postponed due to flooding in the neighboring state of Uttarakhand.
Apart from being an acronym, the name LIFF was chosen to honour Douglas Adams and John Lloyd's The Meaning of Liff, which was in turn named after Liff, a town in Scotland.
In 2011 multiple consulting contracts with the Department of Labor, including one with Stewart Liff, were reviewed as part of an investigated associated with allegations that Assistant Secretary Ray Jefferson violated department procurement rules.
