Prentice married, on 3 June 1819, Jane, daughter of James Thomson of Oatridge, near Linlithgow.

Clan Hope

John Hope of Hopetoun's son was Charles Hope who in 1702 was elected to Parliament for Linlithgow.

Hopetoun House is the seat of the junior branch of the Clan Hope who were Earls and later Marquesses of Linlithgow
