He won his new party's nomination for Portage—Lisgar over Dennis Desrochers and former MP Felix Holtmann, in a contest marked by some bitterness.
In the Canadian federal election of 1972, he ran as a New Democratic Party candidate in the riding of Lisgar, but finished a distant third against incumbent Progressive Conservative Jack Murta, and former Lieutenant-Governor and Liberal candidate Richard Spink Bowles.
A Progressive Conservative, she was appointed to the Canadian Senate on 14 January 1960 on the recommendation of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, and she represented the senatorial division of Lisgar, Manitoba until her death.
