In the mid 1980s, Cumbo formed a trio with Lito Vitale (piano) and Lucho Gonzales and later recorded with Manolo Juarez.
On a more traditional vein, together with Lito Vitale he headed a collaboration that culminated in Postales de este lado del mundo (1991), an album which included themes from popular traditional Argentine composers, like Carlos Gardel, Homero Manzi, the brothers Expósito, Mariano Mores, Enrique Santos Discépolo and María Elena Walsh.
On behalf of FONSAL he wrote music for the main event of the Quito Proclamation Light Bicentennial (Pregón del Bicentenario Luz de Quito), with the participation of Venezuelan violinist Alexis Cardenas, Argentine pianist Lito Vitale, Chilean multi-instrumentalist Mauricio Vicencio and others, made on August 1, 2009, on Independence Square.
In the 1990s, Vitale recorded several tango standards with Juan Carlos Baglietto, and was awarded a Latin Grammy for their collaboration in 2000.
