He was President of the British Bankers' Association from 1938 to 1946 and was also a Director of the National Provincial Bank and of London Assurance.

In 1976 the play was adapted for television by the BBC in the Play of the Month strand, with Anthony Andrews as Charles Courtly and Landen reprising his role of Dazzle.

The play's first production ran for three months and was soon followed (from 11 October 1841, at the Park Theatre) by its first New York production, with Charlotte Cushman as Lady Gay Spanker.
