The Lingones inhabited the Plateau de Langres in the Bourgogne region of France, near Dijon.

The name suggests the garrison placed there was connected to the Classis Britannica or had faced naval action on the way to Britain.
The First Cohort of Varduli are also mentioned in inscriptions at the Antonine Wall, Longovicium in Durham, Bremenium and Corstopitum in Northumberland and on the Dere Street in Cappuck in the Scottish Borders.
