At present the arboretum contains some 2,280 identified species, with major collections of Acer, Berberis, Deutzia, Euonymus, Malus, Lonicera, Philadelphus, Quercus, and Rhododendron.
The larvae feed on Lonicera species (including Lonicera × bella Zabel 'albida'), Symphoricarpos species (including Symphoricarpos orbiculatus) and Triosteum angustifolium.
Blue-berried honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea), a variety of honeysuckle with an edible, blueberry-like fruit.
Like many other natural areas in the eastern United States, the forest has a significant problem with invasive exotics, including tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima), autumn olive (Eleagnus umbellata), Amur honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii), Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica), and princess tree (Paulownia tomentosa).
