Cochrane, Waller and their Marines were assigned to Lord Charles Beresford’s British force for the protection of the European Quarter.

Lord Charles Beresford

Lord Beresford died in 1919 at Langwell, Berriedale, Caithness, at the age of 73, at which point his title became extinct.

William Penny Brookes invited him to be president of the Wenlock Olympian Society Annual Games in Shropshire for the years 1888 and 1889 but he was unable to be present at the sports, because of other commitments.
