Concerns had been raised by Linlithgow MP Tam Dalyell with Lothian and Borders Chief Constable Sir William Sutherland.
On 15 October 2003, it was reported in the press, that Lothian and Borders Police had enlisted the help of the Forensic Science Service (FSS) to try and determine the identity of the person whom the unknown DNA sample belonged to.
