Degadoga, (Cherokee, "Tatoka"), was an 1810 Cherokee emigrant to the Arkansaw area of the Louisiana Territory.
The area was claimed by the French in 1682 as part of the Louisiana Territory associated with the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

Samuel Hammond (September 21, 1757 – September 11, 1842) was a lieutenant colonel during the American Revolutionary War, governor and leader in the Louisiana and Missouri Territories, and United States Representative from Georgia in the 8th United States Congress.
In 1803, Jefferson's ambassadors to France arranged the purchase of the Louisiana territory in conflict with Jefferson's personal belief that the Constitution did not bestow upon the federal government the right to acquire or possess foreign territory.
