Carl Sofus Lumholtz (1851–1922), Norwegian explorer and ethnographer, particularly indigenous cultures of Australia and Mesoamerican central Mexico
The rich basaltic soils in the area supports forests which provide habitat for the Lumholtz's tree-kangaroo.
Born in Fåberg, Norway, Lumholtz graduated in theology in 1876 from the University of Christiania, now the University of Oslo.
