Placed over the hills of Lunigiana, the Castello brings back to the atmosphere of ancient times.
Alberto Azzo II (997 or July 10, 1009, Modena – August 20, 1097, Modena), Margrave of Milan, and Liguria, Count of Gavello and Padua, Rovigo, Lunigiana, Monselice, and Montagnana, aka, Albertezzo II, was a powerful nobleman in the Holy Roman Empire.
Although they extended eastwards along the chain of the Apennines to the frontiers of the Arretines and the territory of Mutina (modern Modena) and Bononia (modern Bologna), the upper valley of the Macra about Pontremoli, an area later known as Lunigiana, and the adjoining Upper Garfagnana were their center.
His major works include "Il Murale Grande" in Milan Town Hall, and "Florence Nightingale", a large outdoor mural on the wall of the Croce Bianco of Codiponte, Lunigiana.
