During the cleanup operation after the beaching of the MSC Napoli cargo ship off the coast of Devon in January 2007, the majority of seabirds covered in oil were sent to the West Hatch RSPCA to be cleaned.

This was inspired by the wreck of the MSC Napoli which was grounded in Branscombe Bay and subsequently lost many containers which were washed up on the beach before being rifled through by people flocking to the small village.
