unusual facts about Madison Square Theatre

Carlotta Nillson

She was probably best remembered by audiences of that time for her performances as Mrs. Elvsted in Hedda Gabler opposite Minnie Maddern Fiske, the title role in Pinero's Letty and Rhys Macchesney in the Rachel Crothers play, The Three of Us, over its long run at the Madison Square Theatre.

Caroline Miskel-Hoyt

She later portrayed Marguerite in Charles Osborne’s The Face in the Moonlight opposite Robert B. Mantell and the following season as Ruth Hardman, in Charles H. Hoyt's satiric comedy A Temperance Town, that opened on the 17th of September, 1893 at Hoyt’s Madison Square Theatre and ran for 125 performances.

Richard Mansfield

He appeared successfully in an original play, Prince Karl and in several plays adapted from well-known stories, and his 1887 rendering of the title-characters in T. Russell Sullivan's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for Palmer's company at Madison Square Theatre, only a year after publication of Robert Louis Stevenson's novella of the same name, created a profound impression.
