In 1937, he was injoined by federal judge John Knight to refrain from selling stock of the Craig Gold Mine, of Madoc, Ontario.
It was first described in 1967 for an occurrence in the Taylor Pit, Madoc, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada.
There exists an alternative explanation, namely that the name comes from a small Welsh village, Llanmadoc on the Gower Peninsula of Wales, not far from the city of Swansea, which is in turn named for a place called Médoc in Bordeaux, France.
It is located north of Highway 7 on the Black River, about 20 km north-west of the town of Tweed and 15 km north-east of the town of Madoc.

Madoc died on 5 March 2012 at the Michael Sobell Hospice in Northwood, north west London, following a "short illness".
In 2010 Madoc took part in the BBC Wales programme Coming Home about her Welsh family history in which she was told of her being related to David Lloyd George.
