He had his early schooling in Madras and graduated from Presidency College, Chennai and Madras Medical College before practising as a doctor.
It is named after the eminent medical practitioner and former professor of Madras Medical College, Dr M.R. Guruswami Mudaliar.
He studied at Madras Christian College in Tambaram, later joining the Madras Medical College and receiving his MBBS degree in 1952.He got his FRCS (Edinburgh) in 1957 and FRCS (England) in1958.
However, the Madras Medical College agreed to admit her in 1878, and she became a boarder at the house of the Reverend W.T. Satthianadhan, an extremely well known Christian missionary.
After completing his bachelor's, Guruswami Mudaliar joined Madras Medical College for a degree in medicine.
