In May 1945, 4,650 Greek refugees, mostly male members of ELAS, settled in the Maglić village with the help of Yugoslav government.
The Yugoslav conflict with the Informbiro saw the Greek community divided between loyalty to Yugoslavia and to the Comintern, and those who supported the latter left the country.
The settlement grew from 51 initial settlers – including folk from Benningen, Marbach am Neckar, Schopfheim, Schorndorf, and Tübingen, in the Palatinate and Hesse, as well as Maglić in the Bačka.
Perućica primeval forest is situated underneath of the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maglić (2386 m), and separated from the Zelengora mountain with the Sutjeska river and its impressive, deep and rugged canyon.
