On 11 August 2007, Sharmarke's co-worker at HornAfrik's Capital Voice private radio station, Mahad Ahmed Elmi, who ran a popular daily morning call-in show on crime and security operations, was gunned down by unknown assailants as he entered his office in the early morning.
He joined Al-mahad Al-elaamy or The Scientific Institute (now Omdurman Islamic University) in Omdurman and after he graduated he worked in many Sudanese newspapers.
The company has manufacturing facilities at various locations in India, including Mahad (Maharastra), Vapi (Gujarat) Baddi (Himachal Pradesh) and Kala Amb (Himachal Pradesh).
She mentions in her autobiography Aaidan that her father neither participated in the Mahad satyagraha organised by Ambedkar nor inter-dining arranged by Savarkar, though her elder sister Shantiakka she recalls often missed school to attend the inter-dining lured by sweet delicacies served there.
