As part of the Vice-Chancellor's Executive (Professor Mal Logan), he played a central role in the mergers undertaken by Monash with the Chisholm Institute of Technology and the Gippsland College of Advanced Education (GIAE).
He established the university's link with the Sunway Group, a relationship which led to the establishment of a Monash Malaysia Campus in 1998.

In 1971, Sir Louis Matheson, then Vice-Chancellor of Monash, invited Logan to take up a professorship at Monash.
