The deal struck in 2007 was part of a policy shift by then Nigerien president Mamadou Tandja to break the four decade de facto monopoly held by Areva, a French state owned nuclear company, by bringing in Sino-U as a competitor.
In 2009, she led the court in two unanimous decisions opposing President of Niger Mamadou Tandja's move to hold a referendum to retire the Constitution of Niger and remain in office while a new constitution was drafted.

Following the 2010 Nigerien coup d'état and the fall of Mamadou Tandja, Ms. Bazèye was named by the transitional Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy (CSRD) to head the 11 member Constitutional Council, a consultative High Court during the transition to the Nigerien Seventh Republic.
On 5 October 2004, President Mamadou Tandja announced the official opening of the Samira Hill Gold Mine, and the first Nigerien gold ingot was presented to him.

Along with Mamadou Tandja, the President of the National Movement for the Development of Society (MNSD-Nassara), and André Salifou, the President of the Union of Democratic and Progressive Patriots (UPDP-Chamoua), Assoumane was arrested on 17 April 1994 following a protest against the government.
