Manangatang has a horse racing club, the Manangatang Racing Club, which holds one race meeting a year, the Manangatang Cup meeting on Caulfield Guineas day in October.

The first sale of township subdivision was in 1913 at prices ranging from 15 to 30 pounds.
From its inception the Institute aimed to provide training to meet the needs of the local community including the more remote locations in the region such as Ouyen, Manangatang and Werrimull.
