Al-Hilal English School is a not-for-profit school in Manki, Karnataka, which was founded in 1989 by late Mr. Sawood Hajika, and is managed by the Tarbiat Education Society.

The population of Manki, Honnavar is 11,000, but the people were lagging behind in educational opportunity compared to surrounding places such as Bhatkal, Honnavara, and Murudeshwara.
The island can be reached by boat and is 4km from Honnavar, 3km from Sharavati Bay and just 1km from Pavinakurva village (an island which also has a beach).
The people from this community are situated in costal area, namely Honnavar and Kumta, and highlands namely Siddapur and Sirsi of Uttara Kannada district.

In Honnavar, Siddapur and Sirsi they are being called by the surname Gouda and in Kumta by Patagar/ Patgar.

In Railway Budget 2010-11, Indian Railway Ministry suggested Public–private partnership (PPP) model to take up this project as the Government of India cannot fund this project alone due to concerns about Rate of return and the complex nature of the project.

Konkan Railway line passes through Honnavar and has a station at Karki, which is about 5 km from the centre of the town.
Keremane Shivarama Hegde was born in a Havyaka Brahmin family in Keremane in the Honnavar taluk of the Uttara Kannada district on 21 June 1908.

On August 23, 2009 in a ceremony held at the St. Peter's & St. Paul's Cathedral in the Monastery of St. Aphrem the Syrian, Ma`rrat Sayyidnaya, Damascus, Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, the supreme head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, ordained Yaq'ub Ramban from India Auxiliary Metropolitan, by name Mor Anthonios Yaqu'b, for the St. Antony's Mission in Honnavar under the Evangelical Association of the East, in the presence of many religious dignitaries and others.
