Some of the most prominent personalities in Marakwet District come from the Embobut region; they include former politicians, such as Robert Kiptoo Kipkorir, and the first Female MP from Marakwet community Linah Jebii Kilimo.
She has also been instrumental in bringing a lasting peace between the Pokots and Marakwets.
Many famous Kenyan runners come from Marakwet, most notably Moses Kiptanui, Evans Rutto, Reuben Kosgei, Ezekiel Kemboi and Richard Chelimo.
