In 1988, he co-produced (with Jon Langford) a Johnny Cash tribute album, Til Things are Brighter, to raise funds for the Terrence Higgins Trust.

He then formed a band including ex-members of Pere Ubu and Captain Beefheart's Magic Band called The Lost Soul Crusaders (named after a fictional group in an episode of the detective series Columbo whose lead singer was played by one of Riley's heroes, Johnny Cash), but the record company funding the band went bust before any material could be recorded.

Filthy Pedro has appeared on Channel 4's Transmission programme (which borrowed the idea from his song 'Rock N Roll Points' as an interview technique), was recommended by Lauren Laverne in the NME and in 2007 performed live on Marc Riley's BBC6 radio show following the launch of his first single.
At the BBC, he started as a producer in News and Current Affairs, then moved to produce youth programmes at Radio Scotland (in Glasgow), and Radio 5 in Manchester where he created programmes such as Hit The North which first united Mark and Lard aka Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley and Bite the Wax presented by the then unknown Armando Iannucci.
The girls have also played sessions for Marc Riley on BBC 6Music, have been interviewed on Phill Jupitus's 6Music's breakfast show twice, plus sessions for Resonance FM, and WFMU in New York.
