3 unusual facts about Marca Hispanica

Marca Hispanica

The Muslim forces however continued to raid their Gaul neighbours to the north, reaching as far as Autun.

The Marca Hispanica resulted from the expansion south of the Frankish realm from their heartland in Neustria and Austrasia starting with Charles Martel in 732 and after various decades fighting between the Franks and Muslims (Moors) in the Iberian Peninsula.

Pamplona (and Sangüesa) were briefly controlled by the Franks until 817, when it was lost to Basque and Christian Iberian forces.

Ibn al-Mughallis

Ibn al-Mughallis was supposedly instrumental in the removal of the Banu Salama tribe of Arabs from Huesca in the Marca Hispanica.
