Ard Saouda or Ard es Saoude (Terres Noires) is a Heavy Neolithic archaeological site of the Qaraoun culture that is located in the Wadi al-Taym, between Rashaya and Marjayoun in Lebanon.
Zaid al-Atrash drove French troops from the area and established a rebel garrison in Majdal Shams to guard the road between Damascus and Marjayoun.

Michael E. DeBakey, world renowned American surgeon, innovator, medical educator, and international medical statesman was born to a family of Lebanese Americans originating in Marjayoun.

Marjeyoun is on a hill facing Mount Hermon to the East, Beaufort Castle, the 1000-year-old Crusader Castle above the Litani River and overlooking Mount Amel (Jabal Amel) to the West, the summits of Rihan and Niha and the rest of the Mount Lebanon range to the North and the fertile plains of Marjeyoun that extend southward into the Galilee plains and the Golan Heights.
The region's command personnel spread in several locations in the Nabatieh and South Governorates, which include Sidon and Tyre military bases, the government hospital, Tebnine Hospital and Marjayoun military base.

Later, the location where the present military base (in Sidon) is was established, constituted of the Officers' club, Banu Barakat military base in Tyre (founded in 1958) and Marjayoun military base in Marjayoun (founded in the early 1940s).
At the time Beaufort was under the control of Reynald of Sidon who had survived the Battle of Hattin, While Saladin was camped at nearby Marjayoun, preparing for the siege, Reynald met him and claimed to have Muslim sympathies.
