He commanded an expeditionary force of about 10,000 men consisting of five infantry battalions, an armored battalion with British Mark VI and Matilda tanks, a battalion of sixteen 25-pounder guns, a battalion of eight 6-pounder guns and a medium machine-gun battalion with supporting troops.
The B Mark VI incendiary bullets were first issued in June 1940 and tested operationally in the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire in the air battles over Dunkirk.
The Mark VI chassis came with mounting points for several different engines including the 1172cc (71.5ci) Ford 10, the 1250 cc or 1500 cc MG TF, the 1500cc (92ci) Consul, and the exalted Coventry Climax.
