In the opera Don Giovanni, the titular character Don Giovanni calls out for a glass of Marzemino just before his deliverance into hell.

As Marzemino was first documented growing in the Veneto in 1553, more than a hundred years before Marzemina bianca, ampelographers now believe that Marzeminia bianca is the offspring with further DNA profiling showing that the Soave grape Garganega (described by the Italian writer Pietro de' Crescenzi in the 13th century) likely being the other parent.
