Born in Massarelos, Porto District, Moreira preferred to play as an attacking midfielder in his early years but, following the advice of father José, soon changed his playing position and took trials for Sport Comércio e Salgueiros.
The municipality includes parts of the city's old downtown, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Other landmarks include Porto's main Custom House, Rosa Mota sports hall, Porto's major fish market and the Campo Alegre neighborhood, where a theatre and several buildings of the University of Porto are located.
A parade of old cars is held annually along the streets of Massarelos and Passeio Alegre.

The Tram Museum is located in the old central power plant of the tram in Massarelos, next to an active STCP depot.
