Massimo Calearo, industrialist and deputy elected for the Democratic Party, launched AdV in April 2010 as a centrist competitor of Liga Veneta–Lega Nord, the dominant political force in Veneto.
However he soon found that the party was too left-wing for him and in November 2009 took part to the foundation of Alliance for Italy (ApI) with Francesco Rutelli.

The party was founded on 9 December 2010 by three deputies coming from centre-left parties and headed to support the centre-right government led by Silvio Berlusconi: Massimo Calearo (ex-PD and ex-ApI), Bruno Cesario (ex-PD and ex-ApI) and Domenico Scilipoti (ex-IdV).
