Here, he received his Bachelor of Arts (1968) in Physics and Astronomy, his Master of Public Health (1972) in Environmental Health Sciences, and his Doctorate (PhD) (1977) in Biomedical and Environmental Health with a focus on Energy & Environment.
Subsequently, he completed a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar Fellowship, earned a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Washington School of Public Health, and was a Congressional Fellow for the Honorable Jim McDermott (Washington).
Holmes was awarded a scholarship grant from the East West Center to study at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, where she received a Master of Public Health, major in International Family Planning, with special studies in Sex Therapy and Marriage Counselling.
He has an interdisciplinary educational background: Masters in Public Health (M.P.H. from California State University, Northridge), General Systems and Information Networks (Certificate from United Nations Institute for Training and Research, University of Stockholm and UCLA), and Ed.D in Instructional Technology (Doctorate from University of Southern California).
Vatten was born in Trondheim, Norway, studied Medicine at the University of Tromsø (MD in 1980) and received a Master of Public Health in 1988 from the University of North Carolina.
He graduated from Cairo University School of Medicine in 1982 and received a Master of Sciences in Public Health from the Military Medical Academy in Egypt in 1988, a Certificate in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo in 1988, and Master of Public Health in International Health Policy and Management from Harvard University in 1991.
