Independence activists such as P. Ramanunni Nair, K. Kelappan, P. Narayanan Nair, C. H. Kunjappa, K. A. Damodara Menon, and A. P. Udhayabhanu have served as Chief Editors of the newspaper, and also Mathrubhumi has witnessed some of the very splendid Indian Civil Service officers as editors.

Mathrubhumi was founded by K. P. Kesava Menon, an active volunteer in the Indian freedom struggle against the British.

The newspaper's founders were members of the Indian National Congress led by K. P. Kesava Menon (1886-1978); its shareholders included about 350 men and women of Kerala.
Nathan has also published pro-Palestine articles in 'Tejas' the mouthpiece of Popular Front of India and Mathrubhumi.
Apart from these, the film also received awards in various other categories at the 2011 Asianet, Surya, Vanita, Mathrubhumi and Asia Vision Film Awards, and made the top notch news in many media and press reviews.
The film is directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan based on a case history published by famous atheist and psychiatrist A. T. Kovoor in Mathrubhumi weekly.
