He was born on March 19, 1893 in Sainte-Geneviève-de-Batiscan, Mauricie, the son of Donat Baribeau and Joséphine Lacroix, and was educated in Sainte-Geneviève-de-Batiscan, at the Collège Sacré-Coeur in Victoriaville and at Griffin's Business College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The new name was a tribute to Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria, who had planned to visit the Mauricie that same year.
It ceased to exist on July 30, 1997 (or August 20, 1997, upon publication in the Gazette officielle du Québec) when it was split into the modern-day administrative regions of Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec.
