In Germany he attended the Mainz Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium, and then the Universities of Mainz, Göttingen, Paris and Rome.
They suffered not far from the city, to which their relics were translated in the seventh century by Bishop Maurus, the first bishop known (649).

Maurus von Schenkl (b. at Auerbach in Bavaria, 4 January 1749; d. at Amberg, 14 June 1816) was a German Benedictine theologian and canonist.
In art, he is depicted as a young man in the garb of a monk, usually holding an abbot's cross or sometimes with a spade (an allusion to the monastery of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, literally "Saint Maurus of the Moats").

There the cult of St. Maurus was revived at the suburban Parisian abbey of Saint-Pierre-des-Fossés, later renamed Saint-Maur-des-Fossés.
According to the Greater Legend of Saint Gerard, Maurus sent four monks from Pannonhalma to assist Gerard, the first bishop of Csanád (now Cenad, Romania) in organizing the new diocese.
